Core web vitals are three key performance metrics relating to website speed, responsiveness and visual stability. They aim to improve page experience for the user. These three metrics are now considered to be an important ranking factor, they are:

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) –length of time it takes for a web page’s main content (paragraph, image, video content etc.) to load.
  • First Input Delay (FID) – reactiveness of a web page and length of time it takes for a page to become interactive.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) – stability of the elements and features visible on a web page.

There are four formats of features snippets; paragraph, list, table and video. You should keep these in mind when creating content. You should also create content that focuses on questions and answers, as featured snippets are often answering a question search query.

3.      Make Use Of ‘People Also Ask’

Google’s ‘People Also Ask’ tool has become an invaluable tool for marketers. It provides a series of popular questions relating to the original search query. You should create content based on these questions to provide valuable answers to your target audience.

Aside from creating relevant and useful content, you may even be able to get your content to rank in the people also ask feature (which appears for almost 50% of searches).

4.      Update Existing Content

Having fresh content on your website is important. But don’t overlook your existing content. By regularly updating your old content, you can keep it relevant whilst increasing your likelihood of ranking.

Carrying out a link audit and fixing broken links within your old content is an effective way to update it. Similarly going back and adding new links to fresh content and landing pages within your site is also beneficial.

5.      Prioritise Mobile Optimisation

So, if you have a business website, it is crucial to optimise it for mobile. Otherwise, you will experience an increased bounce rate, lower conversion rate and even lower rankings. Don’t forget, Google prioritizes mobile page load speed when determining your website’s search ranking!

6.      Understand The EAT Principle

Achieving long-term SEO success is much easier if you have a grasp of the EAT principle. Google may change and update its ranking factors from time to time, but the E-A-T principle is always relevant. It stands for Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness.

Any SEO tactics you carry out, be it content creation or on-site optimisation etc, should aim to improve your brand reputation. Your aim should be to position your website as an authentic, established and trustworthy site.

7.      Create Fresh Content

When creating fresh content for your website, don’t avoid long-tail keywords and phrases. Long-tail keywords are longer phrases that web users often use when they want to know more about a product/service or when they’re closer to the point of purchase.

For example, ‘desk chair’ is a short keyword, but ‘black ergonomic desk chair with wheels’ is a long tail keyword.

In addition, long-tail keywords can help you target web users that use voice search (such as asking Google a question via Siri or Amazon Alexa).

Long-tail keywords allow you to create detailed content that focuses specifically on answering a question or query your target audience has. Although longtail keywords have a lower search volume, the ROI is higher as you’ll be attracting the audience you’re looking for.
